Contacting local authorities

As previously stated many of the companies asked me to contact them closer to the event and as of the 9th April it will be a month exactly before our opening night. The following is what was sent by myself on behalf of the group.

Thank you for all your swift replies to the email below. We would like to formally invite you to the exhibition brought to you by 3rd year Multimedia, Animation and Web production students.

The exhibit will take place from 9th - 13th May 2011 (with the opening night taking place from 5-9 on 9th May at the Michael Ashcroft building, Chelmsford campus).

This will give you a great opportunity to support your local community.

If you wish for any further information on the event then please visit http://www.3rddimensionexhibition.co.uk/index.html, please dont hesitate to contact me regarding information.

With this email now distributed around the county its now just a case of reminding them every week or so just to let them know we havent forgot about them and they havent forgot about us.

Progression of the website

Web design has never been and never will be one of my strong points and i will openly say that i would struggle to create a professional looking online portfolio that represents myself on my own.

With the aid of a few aquantances i will be able to create one in time for the exhibition so my business cards/cv/portfolio will all be able to follow the same theme and hopefully employers will visit my website.

With all this said i already have brought a domain name so its just a case of getting the website finsihed in time ready for the exhibition.

Sorting ourselves out into different groups

Once the presentations had all been done and the theme had been chosen we seperated ourselves up into different groups. These were web design, graphics and exhibition. I went into the exhibition section and my tasks were to be in charge of all money and contact local authorities such as newspapers radio stations etc.

Emails and telephone calls were exchanged with various authorities but the majority of them either didnt reply or they said contact them with more information closer to the time. The follwing text is the email which was sent to various authorities around the county.

To whom it may concern,

We are 3rd year students studying Multimedia, Animation and Web at Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford. You are being contacted on behalf of our fellow peers.

Business Card Ideas

Over the past 4 weeks i have been trying to come up with various business card ideas that represent me as a 3d modeling artist. I have found this quite challenging as there are not many examples of this type of business card out there. Images below show a few of my concept designs. Although it does not fit into my palette of colour i particularly like the one with the dark background.

Idea 1 - Back

Idea 1 - Front

Idea 2 - Front

Idea 2 - Back

Idea 3

I feel that idea 3 still has more to give, in other words it looks as if something is missing from the middle, maybe a 3d object perhaps...

New CV developments

After receiving previous comments on my original CV I have been able to amend certain areas in response to these comments. I have applied another colour palette to my CV design as well as changing the "CV" at the top to "LW" (my initials).

I have also added spacing in certain paragraphs, this allows the reader to read the sections quickly.

I have chosen the palette of colour because i feel that blue represents a cool, chilled out, laid back personality. Using alot of white space also allows the reader to have visual breathing space when reading over my CV. Important details such as personal information has been formatted in bold to draw attention to it, whereas the rest of the text has not been formatted in bold and is a shade of grey as opposed to black.

The images below are of the new CV's amended with different colour palettes applied to them.

Museum Visit

For this requirement of the module I decided to go to one of the most famous and prestigious museums available within close proximity to me, The Tate Modern. I found this visit very useful as it gave me a sense of how to portray certain pieces of artwork and why principle of exhibits. Although i am writing about this visit now, i actually went at the end of week 2 this semester.

The images below are just a few of what I took (I do apologise for the quality of some images as these were taken on my iPhone).

The above images are of sculptures and paintings that i found fairly odd. I thought to myself how can this be art. Art doesn't always have to be appealing to the eye, but it is having the idea to produce it and portray things in such a way.

These two images however were taken in order to capture the way an exhibit/section is set up. As you can see the one at the top has a grey-scale theme and the artefact's fit together very nicely with one another. The other is of an exhibition hall (this is the best picture i could get it because of the dimensions of the hall). It is a very open planned exhibit, i feel this is very good because it gives the opportunity for the viewers to appreciate every piece of work in their own time (well, this is what i did anyway) because it is not cluttered.

Overall this visit to the Tate Modern didn't really give me any great inspiration for an idea for our theme for the exhibition, but it did give me a huge insight into presenting work aesthetically.

Week 4 Blog Update

Today we had to present our idea of the theme we would like to use for the exhibition. Although I felt that ours was a very strong contender it was unsuccessful. The theme for our presentation was "Progression of design". In the end "3D" was the chosen theme. I am pleased with this as this is the one I believe that this was second best to our proposal.

Once the theme for the exhibit had been chosen, it was now time to split ourselves up into different groups to work with towards exhibit in May. I went into the "Exhibition" section along with 6 other students. We have all taken different roles which vary from trying to gain sponsorship right up to layout structure.

My role is to contact local media to see if they are interested in coming down to our exhibit. This would provide a great opportunity for student's work to make it into local newspapers and would even promote their chances in the future to gain employment.

So far I have a list of 8 or 9 local newspapers, radio stations and television stations who I will contact within the next week. These will be contacted in various ways such that will include, email, telephone and in person.
